Paul & Delmari de Vos
"We decided we're not going to run our business as a side hustle, but as a fully CIPC registered company."
We are Paul and Delmari de Vos from Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape. Married for 15 years with two kids โ Niel (10) and Leah (6) โ we started Handyfox Creative Products in 2021 to supplement our income after, like so many others, being hit hard by the effects of Covid-19.
We are both employed full time, so every product we make is born out of evenings, weekends, and a shared passion for creativity. We made a deliberate decision from day one: this would not be a side hustle. This would be a real, CIPC-registered business run with integrity and ambition.
HOW WE GOT HERE
Our Journey
The Beginning โ Baking Mixes & Hot Chocolate Bombs
We started small at local craft markets selling baking mixes and Christmas fruit cakes. Then someone introduced us to Hot Chocolate Bombs and everything changed. We quickly became the "Hot Chocolate Bomb Squad," selling 80โ120 bombs on a good market day.
Sublimation Discovery โ A New Direction
By late 2022 we met a supplier doing sublimation printing on mugs and tumblers. We began collaborating, creating gift sets combining our Hot Chocolate Bombs with their printed products โ and ended up selling more of their printed items than our own.
The Big Investment โ Going All In
Sitting at a market in January 2023, selling more tumblers than bombs, we did the research and calculated exactly what we needed to start our own sublimation operation. After prayer and deliberation, we invested everything and Handyfox Creative Products was reborn.
The Hot Chocolate Bomb Squad Retires โ Gracefully
After focusing fully on sublimation, the chocolate bombs faded out. As Christians who believe you reap what you sow, Paul and Delmari gave the molds and the entire business model to someone else at no cost, along with training and tips. It was the right thing to do.
Expanding the Range โ Net Profit Achieved
After December 2023 they purchased a flat heat press and vinyl cutter, adding T-shirt printing, keychains, and custom prayer journals to the range. For the financial year ending February 2024, Handyfox showed a net profit โ attributing success to the grace of God.
Going Online โ The Next Chapter
With a growing customer base and nationwide demand, Handyfox launches its online store โ bringing personalised, handcrafted products to customers across South Africa.
